National floorball competition: GBI Special beat Yumba

Athletes from the GBI Special School at Hohoe in the Volta Region were the toast of fans when they demolished Yumba Special School 5-0 on the opening day of the National Floorball tournament being held at the Dzorwulu Basic School in Accra.

Floorball is played on a rectangular pitch like hockey, but plastic sticks and balls are used which features five players on each side.

It was Elijah Ayia who shot the Hohoe lads into the lead a few minutes into the game when he displaced the goalkeeper in post for Yumba Special School.

Moments before the first half ended, three-goal hero, Fidel Manyo, increased the tally with a superb volley that hit the back of the net, leaving the Yumba goalkeeper stranded.

After recess, GBI came into the picture again by scoring three quick goals, with Manyo adding two to become the leading scorer of the competition before Sakibu Adamu added his name to the score sheet with a superb shot to the blind side of the goalkeeper.

In the other matches, the Dzorwulu Special School accounted for the Koforidua School for the Deaf EID Unit 2-1, with Echoing Hills and Bolga St Charles Special Schools sharing the points in a 1-1 draw.

Garden City Special School from Kumasi and Shalom Special School from Nkoranza also shared the points after playing goalless.
