Nadia, Safo-Antwi for African Champs

UK-born 100m sprinter, Sean Safo-Antwi, is in line to make his first appearance for Ghana at the 2016 African Senior Athletics Championship in June.

Safo-Antwi, 26, was included in a 41-member team the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) named last Monday to represent the country at the championship from June 22-26 in Durban, South Africa.

He competed for Great Britain before switching nationality to Ghana and was set to make his debut at the 2016 World Indoor Championships last March till he got injured.

The list of athletes, which includes SWAG Athletes of the Year, John Ampomah (javelin) and Nadia Eke (triple jump), is comprised of 17 male and 24 female athletes, who have all met the qualification standards.

Also in the team, dominated by foreign-based athletes, are locally-based high jumpers, Abigail Kwarteng and Regina Yeboah, who will be hoping to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Sprinter Flings Owusu-Agyapong and 800m runner Alex Amankwah, who have already qualified for the Olympics, have also been included while a host of local athletes dominate the respective 4x100m and 4x400m male and female relay teams.

Other members of the team include; Emmanuel Dasor, Jordan Yamoah, Atsu Nyamadi, Shadrack Opoku-Agyemang, Desmond Aryee, Martin Owusu-Antwi, Allah LAryea Akrong, Stephen Opoku, Shepherd Agbeko, DAniel Gyasi, Samuel Yaro, Kwadwo Acheampong and Sampson Laari.

The rest are Persis William-Mensah, Gemma Acheampong, Janet Amponsah, Vivian Mills, Elizabeth Dadzie, Deborah Acquah, Julia Agawu, Elizabeth Dadzie, Mary Zutah, Beatrice Gyaman, Dorcas Gyimah, Josephine Anokye, Kate Agyemang, Akua Obeng-Akrofi, Bless Dupeh, Agnes Abrocquah, Shawkia Iddrisu and Agnes Abu.

According to the treasurer of the GAA, Marc Dzradosi, the list is subject to change with the final athletics meet on Saturday in Cape Coast providing the opportunity for more athletes to qualify.
