Martha Bissah finally for United States

Junior Olympic 800 metres champion, Martha Bissah, is set  for the United States after gaining admission to the Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia.

The 18-year-old long distance runner has been awarded a scholarship by the US- based College  on account of her performance.

The package, sighted by the Graphic Sports yesterday, clearly spelt out the details of the package which included accommodation, feeding and tuition fees for the youngster.

Martha, who is currently being managed by Mr George Lutteordt said she felt bitter about the way the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) under the leadership of Professor Francis Dodoo had treated her and would come out with the full story soon.

She said scholarship offers from Akron University in Ohio were earlier offered by an American University through the GAA  but she couldn’t pursue it because she did not have the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) certificate.

The SAT certificate is an  entry requirement into any of the  American Universities but Martha disclosed that she had been helped by Mr Lutterodt to secure the certificate.

The young athlete has also been registered by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and eligible to compete in any US Collegiate circuit competition.

She told the Graphic Sports that she would work much harder to make her mother and Mr. Lutteordt happy.
