The president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, says his outfit is committed to working towards having many athletes qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia next year.

And in his address, Mr Nunoo Mensah said, "I can say on authority that most of our athletes are not ready to qualify but we should be working towards having many athletes qualify for the Commonwealth Games".

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, expressed government's support towards helping the athletes participate and win gold at the Games next year.

Mr Asiamah proposed to the GOC to ensure at least 15 sports persons competed in 12 disciplines for Team Ghana at the event and urged them to make sure the country got value for money.

The Deputy Australia High Commissioner to Ghana, Justin Fraser, noted that the Games would be the biggest sporting event in Australia in a decade as well as the largest ever competition in Gold Coast.

He added that seven new disciplines had been added to the Games, including boxing, cycling and beach volley.

The General Secretary of the GOC, Richard Akpokavie, stressed that the GOC was the representative of the Commonwealth Games in the country and decided to come together as athletes, coaches and administrators to achieve their dreams.
