Ghana’s Fastest Human registration ends Aug 31

Organisers of the Tecno-sponsored Ghana’s Fastest Human competition have set August 31 as the deadline for registration by potential young athletes for the novel sports reality show that seeks to unearth and develop talented athletes for future sporting and academic careers.

A former national sprinter and a director of Ghana’s Fastest Human, Reks Brobby, told the Daily Graphic that registration forms had been made available at Fidelity Bank branches throughout the country, with September dedicated for 60-metre elimination dashes to prune the initial number down to the last 50, who will be housed and also undergo a three-week training programme by De Yale Sports Centre, an America sports company in Ghana, on nutrition, psychology, and new improved training and coaching methods.

“A lot of people are talking about the mouth-watering’  prize of GH¢20,000 each for the male and female winners, but the programme goes beyond just sports, because it has an educational component with outstanding athletes in line to win athletics scholarships abroad which is the reason why we have the World Bank, for example, as a sponsor,” Mr Brobby said.

At the end of October, the final of finals will be held and the winners crowned fastest in Ghana. However, the World Bank Africa Region, IFC, Deyale Sports Centre and Cowbell will partner the organisers to continue this specialised training effort in the three mentioned areas for the last 50 athletes after the end of this inaugural project, from October 2013 to March 2014.
