The TMGFH is a project initiated to revive Ghanaian athletics and provide corporate support to develop the sport at the grass roots.
An athletics and media event, the TV reality sports show is designed to involve all potential sprinters from the various districts in the country for the next seven years covering two Olympic Games (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020).
Historically, Ghana has performed creditably in sprints events at international competitions and so TMGFH aims at focusing on the 100 metres event to get Ghanaians and corporate Ghana to push athletics to the pinnacle of international competitions.
The first of four elimination series began at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Monday for registered athletes from the Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regions.
From a brave 40-year-old lady who pulled up injured half way through the race in Kumasi to a young 17- year-old lady winning the 100 metres final in 11.54 seconds, to a young man of 22 winning the men's race in 10.21 seconds, Monday’s trials for athletes in the southern belt promises to be full of fireworks.
