Ghana Athletics Association wishes Gaisah well

The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has given its full backing to  long jumper,Ignatius Gaisah, in his decision to switch nationality and wished him well  in his future endeavours.

A statement signed by Bawa Fuseini, general secretary of the GAA, further thanked him for serving Ghana diligently over a period of 10 years.

It  said “the GAA wishes to announce the finalisation of a process allowing Ignatius Gaisah to switch competition allegiance from Ghana to the Netherlands. With concurrence from IAAF, Gaisah can now represent the Netherlands”.

“Gaisah acquired Dutch citizenship on June 13 and immediately notified the GAA of his intent to switch competition allegiance, citing better access to resources such as funding, facility and coaching affinity for the Netherlands, among others.

“Ghana supported his career at the early stages, including funding through the Ghana Olympic Committee for approximately half a decade.

“We wish Gaisah well and thank him for serving this country with distinction,” the statement added.

Gaisah has for the past 10 years been one of Ghana’s most prominent  athletes and once won  a silver medal at the World Indoor Athletics Championship in 2005 and a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in long jump.
