GAA holds elections today

Nineteen delegates of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) are expected to converge on the conference hall of the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium to elect a new national president and other executive members of the association.

The two frontrunners, Professor Francis Dodoo and George Haldane-Lutterodt, an economist, are both hopeful they will win, thus marketing themselves and propagating their messages to the delegates on the way forward for athletics in the country.

The incumbent GAA president, Professor Dodoo faces a keen challenge from Mr Haldane-Lutterodt, a former GAA chairman, and Dr Silvanus Lamptey, a former national athlete.

Mr Haldane-Lutterodt has pledged to unify the athletics fraternity and inject capital into its administration without compromising on discipline.

He has vowed to leverage the sport to the business community and organise regular competitions among young talents nationwide.

He has also vowed to sanitise the GAA which is currently engulfed in acrimony and divisiveness under the present leadership.

Other positions to be contested include vice-president which Princeworth Anane-Asare and Reks Brobby are expected to run, treasurer, Richard Agyapong and Marc Dzradosi and organising secretary: Samuel Ayer, Bawah Fuseini and Emmanuel Sekyere Arhin.
