Cynthia Kafui Dotsey receiving the award from Francis Chuks Njoaguani

Female wrestling coach honoured in Senegal

Traditional wrestling coach Cynthia Kafui Dotsey has been honoured by the West Africa Traditional Wrestling Federation as the first-ever female coach in an ECOWAS African Wrestling tournament.

She received her award at the just-ended Eighth ECOWAS Wrestling De Dakar in Senegal.

Francis Chuks Njoaguani, the Director of the ECOWAS Wrestling championship, presented Cynthia with her trophy accompanied with a citation which described her as a woman of valour.

Madam Dotsey, a fourth Dan Degree Black belt holder in taekwondo, is a well travelled traditional wrestling and taekwondo coach and has vast experience in the sport.

She told the Graphic Sports in an interview that she was elated by the award and lauded the efforts of Ghana’s contingent at the tournament who have enabled the award to be bestowed on her.

She noted that she would impart her knowledge, both practical and in theory, to young talents in wrestling and would be wrestling trainers.

At the tournament itself, Ghanaian Welbeck Oliver Ayeh, reached the semi-final of the 100kg category.

He was the only Ghanaian athlete to progress that far; the four other wrestlers were defeated in the preliminaries.
