The tour had already taken the cyclists to Benin and Togo after the third edition of the competition started in Lagos on November 13.

The president of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), Mohammed Sahnoon, was grateful to the Ghanaian border authorities for allowing a smooth transition for the riders from Togo through the Aflao border.

"The third edition of the five-country tour has been very successful, and this year’s edition has been an improvement on the last," he said.

"The Burkinabes used to be dominant in past editions of the tour, but this year the competition is much more balanced, with Ghanaian cyclist Abdul Razak Umar currently in possesssion of the yellow jersey for being the best young rider.”

Cyclists from Gambia, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali all set off with their Ghanaian counterparts from the Accra Sports Stadium en route to Obuasi after which the five-nation race will end in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, today.
