Athletics: Dasor, Gyasi show class

Enterprising Emmanuel Dasor and Daniel Gyasi stole the show from their Nigerian counterparts at this year’s Warri Relays/CAA Grand Prix held inside the Warri Township Stadium, in Delta state of Nigeria last Friday.

Emmanuel Dasor defied the bad weather to clock 46.14 seconds to win the men’s 400 metres ahead of his compatriot Daniel Gyasi, who finished second in 46.45 seconds, while Nigeria’s Erayokan Orukpe placed third in 46.52 seconds.

Another Ghanaian, John Ampomah, won the men’s javelin with a throw of 73.73metres ahead of Nigerian’s Kenechukwu Ezeofor (67.32metres) and Friday Osayande (64.74metres), who settled for second and third positions respectively.

Dasor later proved his 400metres victory was not a fluke when he anchored Ghana‘s 4x400metres relay, comprising George Effah, Daniel Gyasi and Kwadwo Acheampong, clocking a time of 3:04.72 seconds.

Nigeria led by Erayokan finished second with a time of 3:04.77 seconds, while Botswana came third in 3:06.49 seconds.

Nigeria won the women’s 4x400 metres relay in 3:30.88 seconds ahead of Botswana (3:36.97seconds) and Nigeria’s Team B (3:46.43 seconds).

Amaka Ogoegbunam of Nigeria won the women’s 400 metres hurdles in 56.26 seconds, with Daisy Akpofa of Ghana clocking 58.51 seconds to place second while Glory Nathaniel placed third with a time of 58.53 seconds.
