Mr Akpokavie retained his seat after defeating Mohammed Sahnoon by 36 to 26 votes in a keenly contested elections last Wednesday in Accra.

The GOC scribe was part of the previous administration which was led by Professor Francis Dodoo and admitted in an interview with the Graphic Sports that he supported him to retain his seat.

It could be remembered that the GOC electoral congress was surrounded by a lot of controversies after some of the sports federation heads accused Prof. Dodoo of delaying the process.

In an interview with this paper after seeing his preferred boss unseated, Mr Akpokavie said "We will have to work hard to develop sports in the country after the delegate had spoken".

"It is true that I supported Prof. Francis Dodoo in the elections but unfortunately he lost to the new president and I have to work with him in the interest of the GOC," Mr Akpokavie added.

When asked whether he thinks Mr Nunoo Mensah can deliver in his new role, the president of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) noted that he was voted for because the delegates believed in him and he must do just that.
