Women shouldn't be scared to handle challenges - Abena Ruthy

GOSPEL artiste Abena Ruthy, who is vying for the position of 2nd Vice President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has said women should be given equal opportunities but must be ready to take up challenges.

According to her, although the role she is vying for is seen as high ranking and should be left to men, she is determined to make a difference.

“I'm not at all scared, in this age of equal opportunity no woman should be scared of taking up challenges. We all have brains and God-given abilities and in that lies our strength.

"So no position should cause any fear in any human being created in the image and likeness of God. Again the outgoing administration reviewed the constitution and made this position a preserve for women and I am ready for anything that comes with it, ” she told Showbiz last week.

When asked how she intends to deal with the controversies that surrounds MUSIGA if she wins Abena Ruthy said, “Institutions are bound to have issues so long as there are diverse stakeholders, even private institutions suffer the same.

"The only difference is that theirs hardly becomes a public spectacle. What we need to do more as a Union, is to continue to build member confidence through initiatives that will inure to their benefit.

"So I will support the executive team with ideas attained from my 14 years in banking and administrative work as well as experience gained in leading the women in Gospel music,” she said.

Giving an overview of what she is bringing on board Abena Ruthy said, "I will support the executive body to implement strategies that will benefit all members and help bridge that gap between leadership and members with my experience as President of Women in Gospel Music, having held the group together for five years.”

Abena Ruthy is the Founder and Executive Director of Diamond Africa Foundation (DAF) which is into advocacy for a better youth for Africa. She is also the CEO of Incredible Cleaning and Trading Services, President of Women in Gospel Music and Vice President of Christian Music Association of Ghana (CMAG).

She holds a certificate in Public Policy and Administration from Walden University, specialising in People Management and Leadership, MA in Economic Policy Management, Executive MBA (Marketing) and a BA in English and French, all from the University of Ghana, Legon.
