Rhyme Sonny gets Gold Coast Excellence awards nod

THE year has started on a good note for poet and spoken word artist, Rhyme Sonny, as he has secured a nomination at the upcoming Gold Coast Excellence Awards.

Rhyme Sonny is competing against the likes of Richie of Lynx Entertainment, Bullet of Ruff Town Records, Ibrahim Mahama and Set Designer, Kojo Hilton in the Excellence in Creative Arts category.

Expressing his excitement to Showbiz on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, the poet said the nomination is a recognition of his hard work and talent over the years.

Rhyme Sonny added that he was privileged to be in the same category with reputable people in the creative arts industry.

“My nomination is fulfilling especially when I look at the people in the category. Also, this is the first time poetry is getting attention in any major awards scheme and that would encourage people to get more into poetry,” Rhyme Sonny stated.

Activities for the maiden edition of the Gold Coast Excellence Awards with a nominees’ launch at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, January 22.

Outstanding individuals and organisations have been nominated in 40 categories. They include Excellence in Fashion and Lifestyle category which has Sima Brew, Duaba Serwaa, Pistis GH, Christie Brown, Brommon and Mudi Africa as nominees and the Excellence in Media category with Peace FM, Okay FM, Atinka FM, Joy FM,Citi FM and Neat FM as nominees.

Others are Excellence in Entrepreneurship, Excellence in Food Manufacturing, Excellence in Creative Arts, Excellence in Leadership, Excellence in Banking and Excellence in Makeup Artistry.

Speaking at the nominees’ launch, Mimi Andani-Michaels, Chief Operating Officer of NMJ Ghana, organisers of the awards said the scheme has been established to reward and encourage professionalism.

“The mission is to develop innovation and excellence in people and the industries in Ghana. We hope to challenge Ghanaian industries to attain great standards as well as throw light on young entrepreneurs making strides to ensure excellence in their endeavours,” she revealed.
