MzVee and guests had a swell time
Singer MzVee's birthday was an all female affair

MzVee brings women together for her ‘Stand Red’ bday

To mark her  birthday  this year, singer MzVee decided to make it an all-female affair at a dinner themed ‘Stand Red’ at the  SOHO Bar & Restaurant, Airport City in Accra and what a  massive celebration of sisterhood and fun  time it was.

There was a lot to eat and drink in the midst of short  messages of  encouragement from some of the guests  to women to  always be each other’s keeper and also strive to be achievers in their various fields of endeavour.

Compliments rained like confetti on MzVee from everyone around and there was even a birthday song in Hindi from an Indian lady at the event, Sapna Agrawal,  wife of the CEO of Feminera Beauty Products in Accra.

Explaining why she themed the event ‘Stand Red’, MzVee said red colour stood for strength  so she was urging all women to stand strong , support and lift each other up.

“A lot of people asked why I wanted to celebrate my birthday with just women. I realise, and it’s not just in the music business, that women are not very supportive of each. Women do not lift each other up.

“We spend a lot of precious time bickering and fighting and being jealous of each other. That’s a fact. But  it is so beautiful to see all of us here  at one place and I wish that from today on, we will all make it a habit to check on each other and help each other,” MzVee said.

The guests included government officials, business people and  her immediate family  as well as a lot from the music and media fronts. Some of them  were  Michelle Attoh, Luckie Lawson,  Becca, Efya, Nikki Samonas, Joyce Blessing, Freda Rhymes, Feli  Nuna, Berla Mundi , OV and  Adomaa.

MzVee, full name Vera Hemenoo-Kpeda,  was part of the D3 all-girl trio signed onto the Lynx Entertainment label in 2012. She later went solo and is widely known for songs like Borkor Borkor, Natural Girl, Dancehall Queen, Sing My Name and  Come and See My Moda.  She was crowned New Artiste of the Year at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana  Music Awards.

Madam Catherine Afeku, Minister of State at the Office of the President, assigned to the Office of the Senior Minister praised MzVee for the appropriateness of the theme for her birthday celebration. She described the singer  as a powerful young woman  using her voice to bring about change.

“If you listen carefully to her lyrics, you see there are lessons in there. I encourage all the others here who are  into music, to also use what they do  to help bring about the change we all desire. You can do it,” the Minister stated.

Dr Ezenator Agyeman-Rawlings,  Member  of Parliament for Klottey Korley Constituency, told MzVee she was an inspiration to her generation and hoped  she would open up for more young ladies to see her as the role model  that she is.

Madam Esther Cobbah, CEO of Strattcomm Africa said it was inspiring to see so many beautiful women gathered for the ‘Stand Red’ dinner. She asked them to tap into themselves and discover their full potential to the benefit of themselves and others.

A Director at the Ghana Audit Service and an architect, Madam  Zenabu Andan, was the main emcee. She implored guests to pledge to make at least one needy child happy by paying a term’s school fees or giving a meaningful present. She asked women to learn to network as a way of empowering themselves.

It was generally a night of fun and good humour as well. When  Efya said the opening prayer to get proceedings underway, she received a lot of cheers for  what a guest described as her ‘sanctified words and holy demeanor’.

When the dancing started after everyone had eaten, it was like school girls let loose on a play ground. Guests  simply let their hair down and danced to celebrate MzVee  late into the night.
