82nd Asafotufiami Festival launched in Ada

THIS year's edition of the Asafotufiami Festival of the people of Ada has been launched. The launch took place at the Aqua Safari Beach Resort at Ada on Thursday, July 4, amid traditional music, drumming and dancing.

The Asafotufiami festival commemorates the bravery of the ancestors and founding fathers who fought tirelessly and sacrificed themselves to establish Ada. It has become one of the highly anticipated festivals in the country and attracts thousands of patrons.

This year's event under the theme: "Local Resources Mobilization Towards Development And Growth of Ada Traditional Area is scheduled to come off from August 1 to August 8.

Activities to be undertaken include a clean up exercise which kicks off on Thursday, August 1 at Big Ada from 6a.m. to 10 a.m. Later in the evening, there will be a film festival to promote the arts in Ga Dangme.

On Friday, August 2, there will be a boxing event powered by the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL). The categories for the bouts will be Cadet, Juvenile (Amateur) and Professional.

A grand durbar follows on Saturday, August 3 at the Presbyterian JSS Park at Big Ada at 9 a.m. The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, a Ga Dangme, will be the guest of honour. TV3’s Music Music show will be streamed live from Big Ada in the evening.

A special Sunday church service takes place on August 4 at the Presbyterian JSS Park at Big Ada at 9 a.m. Other activities, sponsored by telecomunications company MTN, are traditional drumming and dancing, a football competition, volleyball competition among others.

Speaking at the launch, the District Chief Executive for Ada East, Madam Sarah Dugbakie Pobee outlined the benefits of the Asafotufiami festival saying it will bring businesses to Ada and also give natives the platform to exhibit their culture.

The Managing Director of the GCGL, Mr Ato Afful, expressed excitement that his outfit was coming on board as partners of the Asafotufiami festival.

“We are happy to come on board and I want all the other businesses and brands that are active in this country to see this traditional festival as a huge opportunity and come on board,” he stated.
