SOUND engineer and judge for MTN Hitmaker Season 8, Kaywa has revealed that it has been difficult to select contestants for this year because the talent pool is so big.
Speaking with Graphic Showbiz at the premises of National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) on Monday, September 30, where auditions to select contestants for the Boot Camp stage took place, Kaywa said this year’s is the toughest.
"There are too many talents to choose from this year. This is making it difficult for us to choose the final 24 or 26 who will go to the boot camp.
“I have been with this initiative for a while and been part of the selection process but this year, it's overwhelming. Honestly, I am really impressed with what we have seen so far, it’s great,” he said.
His colleague judge, Richie agreed but made it clear that what had to be done would be done.
"It's true but not everyone will get to go, we definitely have to bring the number down so we will. When and if things get tough, we might have to extend the days and drill the contestants more,” he stated.
The numbers that turned up at NAFTI, who had passed the semi-final stage, were impressive and the level of talent exhibitied was amazing.
Asked what they actually look out for during the selection process, judge Eazzy said,"We are looking at originality, voice, time, pronunciation of words, attitude and ability to move the judges."
Some of the contestants performed their own songs while others did renditions of songs by artistes they love.
After two successful auditions, one in Kumasi and one in Accra, only at least 26 contestants will make it to the book camp this weekend.
