Like or hate him, Dancehall act, Shatta Wale makes the headlines when it matters. And on Saturday night he was in the news for all the right reasons when a couple bought the first copy of his Reign album for GH¢150,000 at the launch which came off at the Fantasy Dome in Accra.
Shatta Wale had earlier announced that he was selling the first copy of his album for GH₵10,000 but to his shock and that of the thousands of fans present, it was bought at GH₵150,000 by a couple only named as Mr and Mrs Sleg.
Mr and Mrs Sleg were accompanied onto the stage by musician, Nana Boroo, and in declaring their intent to get the first copy for GHs150,000 to comedian DKB who led the auction, Mr Sledge said, “ …I know the CD dey go for ¢100,000 right but Shatta Wale dey deserve more than ¢100,000 so me and my wife we wan give am ¢150,000,” .
His statement drew loud cheers and applause from the crowd who obviously appreciated the gesture form the couple.
In his usual bragging mode, Shatta Wale said “…the reason why me Shatta Wale I dey fit buy house, I dey fit buy things on my own be say I dey move in this Ghana with humility and rest with some people wey today dey support me…”

Songs on the 17-track Reign album are Don’t Baby My Baby, Bend Over, Squeeze, I Regret, If I See, Give Dem Something, Crazy, Amount, Wonders and Rosalinda.
The others are Sister Sister, Mama Stories, Gringo, My Mind Is Made Up, Caesar, Exodus and One Way Style.
Even though Gringo is the most popular song with almost 2,000,000 views on YouTube at present, Shatta Wale mentioned Exodus as his favourite song because it was inspired by his real-life struggles.
The Reign album launch had Shatta entertaining a huge crowd to some of his old and new songs over a four-hour period.
