The 2017 edition of the ‘Live in Accra Jazz Festival’ opened yesterday, April 19 with an exhibition of jazz-themed paintings by Yaw Safori at the Alliance Française in Accra.

Safori, an internationally-acclaimed, self-taught artsist,   has a deep love for jazz which reflects in his paintings of soloists, trios, quartets and big bands as well as stylistic renditions of various instruments.

Over 50 dance groups from all the regions of Ghana will converge at James Town on Saturday, April 29 in a concert dubbed Azonto Dance Concert.

Some of the dance groups who will thrill patrons are Heroz, NWA, The Gentlemen, Humble Stars, Footprint, Kyses, DFC, Zigi, Webbie, BBOYS, Breaking Boys, I Candy among others.

Urban gospel rapper and poet, Psalm 1 is set to stage this year’s edition of his annual concert dubbed Vimming Concert 2.0. This year’s event takes place on Friday, April 21, at 10am at the Action Chapel International on the Spintex Road.

The concert will feature a number of personalities including Kafui Dey of GhOne, Jeremie Van Garshong, Actor/Pastor Timothy Bentum, Kingzkid, Jaysmoke and Lil Zig. 

Since Ras Kuuku and Medikal went home empty handed inspite of a good number of nominations in various categories at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), they have been picked on by trolls on social media and have been the butt of jokes too.

Songs on the album recorded by sound engineer Dave Joy are Woye Ohene, Edin Jesus, Neɛ Ewurad Ayɛ and Nsuro.

New artiste on the gospel scene, Rev Ama Ghansah is set to launch her maiden album titled Me Som Wo, on Saturday, April 8, at the Life International Church, Achimota.

The songs on the album are Mi Wor Jesus, Mesom Wo, Mighty God, Hymns Medly, David Ndwom and Praise Medley.

VGMA gospel artiste of the Year nominee for 2017, Joe Mettle, thinks that it was about time Ghanaian gospel artistes initiate their own award scheme in Ghana.

According to him, the recognition given to gospel artistes as compared to artistes of secular music under the Ghana Music Awards was not enough.

Although he is yet to be a household name, Afrobeat artiste, Quachie believes some musicians become one time hit makers because they do not write their songs.

According to him, musicians who write their own songs always come out with new ideas and stay relevant for a long time.
