KISSING and romance are normal fare for actors and although she has been in the movie industry for a while now, Abena Kyei Boakye says she cannot kiss or play romance in movies.
According to Abena, who was second runner-up in Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2011 and has starred in movies like Woes of Africa, Sisters at War, English Teacher, Apples and Bananas among others, she is willing to play any role as long as it doesn’t involve kissing.
“I can’t kiss or play any romance scene with any man I am not dating. Sorry that is not my style. I won’t just do it no matter the money involved,” she told Showbiz.
As an actress, Abena is better placed to know the true state of the industry and that is why she is advising her colleagues to get other jobs and not depend only on acting.
Abena, who doubles as the procurement manager at Trinity Oil at its Head Office, said the movie industry is not paying at the moment and any actor who depends on it solely for income is likely to go broke.
“How many times do movies producers like Shirley Frimpong Manso or Abdul Salam shoot in a year? Does it mean the actor will be jobless until he or she is called by a producer? I will advise that my colleagues take up two or more jobs aside acting,” she said.
Abena who has acted alongside stars like Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Nelson, Eddie Nartey among others told Showbiz she is ready to premiere her latest movie, Zoli, in which she played the main character.
Zoli, according to Abena teaches a lot of social and moral lessons.
