The fashion label derives its name “Aku” from a Wednesday born girl from the “Ewe” tribe in Ghana, and Vi to mean Vibrant; thus Aku+Vi comes to reveal a true reflection of our own uniqueness and self-awareness.

Founded by Nana K. Brenu, Aku+Vi has been launched to celebrate sisterhood and contemporary life.

The collection which was showcased at the launch saw nine models each wearing a look from the collection and was showcased through the “Imaginative TV” concept from the Beast of No Nation movie.

The modern renaissance collection was inspired by the need to see the “Aku+Vi” girl rediscovering who she is and proud of what she discovers while taking on the world

Describing his unique fashion style, Nana K. Brenu said, “Aku+Vi garments are youthful, trendy and have feminine silhouettes that are not too girly at affordable prices.”

“The label is designed for the young, discerning modern African woman: She knows who she is unapologetically, she is proud of her heritage and is ready to explore and rediscover herself and her own achievements as she progresses through contemporary life as a global citizen, he added.

Nana K. Brenu, who is also the designer of the brand 1981 added that, “Aku+Vi is a fun, trendy and easy to wear brand with bold, graphic and batik prints, but with fine details, to match the taste of the vivacious modern girl.

It is aimed at becoming a truly African brand that produces quality and fine garments, while achieving its goal of becoming the leading value fashion retailer across Africa.”
