What Wizkid has done for me – Duncan Mighty

NIGERIAN musician, Duncan Wene Mighty Okechukwu, popularly known as Duncan Mighty, has reacted to insinuations trailing his trending hit song with Nigerian Starboy, Wizkid entitled Fake Love.

Nigerians on social media had called out the Rivers-born artiste after the release of the music video, stating that Wizkid revived his (Duncan Mighty’s) dead career. They also claimed that Wizkid’s voice dominated the song.

But in an interview with NET TV, Duncan Mighty admitted that the music video was a turn around for his music career. He stated that Wizkid was like a family to him, and hailed the Ajegunle-born artiste as Africa’s number one.

He said, “I just want to say a big thank you to start boy wizkid, because after fake love, it was a big turn around for me.

“Big shout out to my brother my blood Wizkid.

“From the day of the recording to the video, it was not like coming together to do collaboration, It was not like managers meeting, it was more like working with your brother.

“There are few artists who are family who doesn’t just want to know you for music sake.

“Star boy is number one in Africa, better respect that.”

Duncan Mighty was born on 28 October 1983. Though his musical style demonstrates a high-level of genre versatility, it is also heavily influenced by the sounds and culture of his people as most of his songs are sung in his native Ikwerre tongue.

He released his debut full-length album Koliwater in 2008, which was a commercial success. The 22-track album had popular songs such as Ijeoma, Scatter My Dada, Ako Na Uche and drew the attention of many music lovers across the country.

His second studio album,15 tracks Ahamefuna (Legacy), released in 2010 featured songs such as Obianuju and Port Harcourt Son.

This earned him three nominations at the 6th Annual NEA Awards in 2011 and won the "Indigenous Artist of the Year".

In September 2012, Duncan Mighty released Footprints, an 18-track album with guest appearances from Timaya, Shaggy, Otuu Sax, Sandaz Black and Wande Coal.

Duncan Mighty, a UN as a Peace Ambassador got married to his fiancee Vivien on 25 July 2015.
