Two assemblies fail again to endorse MCE, presiding member
Assembly members of the Savelugu Municipal Assembly in the Northern Region have failed for the second time to elect a Presiding Member (PM) for the assembly.
The position of the PM became vacant as a result of the creation of a new district out of the then Savelugu-Nanton Municipality this year.

The election of the PM, which had been held on two separate occasions, all failed to produce a PM for the assembly as the two candidates who are vying for the position could not secure the two-thirds majority of the total votes cast.

During the second round of voting to elect a new PM for the assembly held at Savelugu last Tuesday, which was supervised by the Municipal Directorate of the Electoral Commission (EC), the two candidates, Abdul Rahman Shaibu Sofo, and Munkaila Adam Yakubu, obtained 13 and 24 votes, respectively out of 39 ballots cast.
Consequently, voting was adjourned to a time to be determined by the leadership of the assembly which is expected in September, this year.
The failure of the assembly members to elect a PM to preside over their meetings left many disappointed including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hajia Ayishetu Seidu.
Weija-Gbawe Assembly
The nominee for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Mr Patrick Kumor, has again been rejected by the assembly members.
In a poll supervised by the Electoral Commission of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Mr Kumor polled less than the required two-third majority of the total votes cast.
For the second time in 10 days, six out of the 11 assembly members gave him the nod while the remaining five of them voted against him.
He stands a chance of being approved by the assembly members in the next 10 days if they vote for him.
Double disappointment
Residents within the Weija-Gbawe Assembly could not hide their disappointment, as for the second time in 10 days, Mr Kumor was disapproved by some assembly members.
Angry residents registered their displeasure about how disappointed they were in the various assembly members.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, a woman who only gave her name as Maame Ama explained how these same assembly members were literally on their knees when they wanted to be voted into office.
"These assembly members are just selfish individuals after their own personal gains. I vividly remember how they came begging us to vote for them,” she said.
