The campaign team of NDC flagbearer aspirant, Professor Joshua Alabi has called on the party's leadership to involve branch executives in the party's upcoming national delegates congress.
According to the team, involving the branch executives to elect a presidential candidate will strengthen the base of the party at the grassroots level.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra Thursday morning, Prof Alabi's campaign team Coordinator, Mr Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu said one of the ways of uniting the party is to allow the grassroots to own the party.
That, he explained, can be achieved when the grassroots, represented by the branch executives are allowed to vote in the party's delegates congress.
"Team Alabi believes that to strengthen all structures of the Party and to build a very strong party for election 2020, the grassroots, represented by the branch executives should be deeply involved in selecting a flag-bearer for our Party," he said.
Mr Adawudu was of the view that the branch executives were critical to the party's goal to recapture power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections, saying "They (grassroots) are the kingmakers of our Party."
He explained that Article 42 (i)(g) of the party allows branch executives, both elected and co-opted, to exercise their franchise in the selection of a presidential candidate for the party.
He said "nothing and absolutely nothing should be made to deprive them (branch executives) of their right to vote," stressing that "We believe that this is the beginning and the manifestation of our mantra, power to the people."
Mr Adawudu also called for the establishment of a fair and representative elections committee, explaining that the establishment of such a committee will enable all aspirants
"Transparency, fairness and equity should be the hallmark of this contest," he said, adding "With free and fair elections, the interest generated within the party and the ongoing rebuilding process, the grassroots, supporters and Ghanaians will be encouraged and assured to work towards victory 2020."
