Opoku Prempeh supports Manhyia Hospital, needy

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly nown as ‘Napo’ has presented quantities of personal protection equipment to the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.

The items, which included a large quantity of hand sanitisers, face masks and hand gloves to augment what the hospital already has, are to help the frontline staff of the hospital protect themselves against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“This is my personal way of helping to protect the frontline health workers who are working tirelessly day and night to save human lives in the wake of the spread of the deadly Covid-19 virus in our country,” Dr Prempeh explained.

Donation

As a medical practitioner himself, he said he was aware of the challenges facing health practitioners in the country and their apprehension in the face of the pandemic.

Dr Prempeh, who is the Minister of Education, acknowledged the sacrifices medical officials made in their line of duties, assuring them that, “we are solidly behind them physically and spiritually”.

He said aside motivating the health workers to continue their “splendid” work, the gesture was also geared towards reminding the health workers that the entire country appreciated their efforts.

“I also used the occasion to reiterate my call on Ghanaians that the Covid-19 virus does have limbs to move; people move it. When we move, the virus moves. Therefore we should adhere to government’s call to stay at home and prevent the spread of the disease,” Dr Prempeh stated.

Receipt

The Clinical Coordinator of the hospital, Dr Michael Opoku, who received the items on behalf of the hospital, was grateful to the MP.

He reiterated the need for medical practitioners to have the required personal protective equipment as required by the protocols in handling the COVID 19 pandemic.

“We are extremely pleased with the donation and wish to appeal to others to also emulate the MPs gesture and support the work we do”, he said.

Residents

The minister later presented food items to close to 10, 000 residents within the constituency to support them during the restriction of movement.

The items included bags of rice and oil and were distributed through the party coordinators and assembly members from the electoral areas.

This was to avoid the congregation of people at one point thus defeating the purpose of the imposition of restriction.

He said the donation was to reduce the burden on the vulnerable and those who were not well prepared for the lockdown go through the rest of the period without any difficulty.

“We all know the difficulty these restrictions could bring and that's why we should all help to reduce the impact on households and this is to help the needy and those who need same to deal with the present situation,” he said.
