Ofosu Ampofo denies owning filling station and restaurant on Ksi-Accra road

Former Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has denied owning a new fuel filling station and restaurant located near Nsutam, on the Bunsu junction and Anyinam stretch of the Kumasi–Accra highway.

Named as Paradise, the new restaurant has come up as an alternative to the Linda Dor restaurant, which used to be the only major rest stop on the busy Accra-Kumasi road and patronized by many travellers.

Some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have accused government officials of amassing “questionable wealth”, which they said should be investigated and have linked a number of ministers to various filling stations which have sprang up across the country.

On various radio platforms, particularly on Accra based Oman FM, one NPP activist, Yaw Adomako Baafi, has consistently mentioned Mr Ofosu Ampofo as the owner of the new filling station and restaurant.

But speaking on Peace FM Wednesday as a panel member on the morning show, Mr Ofosu Ampofo denied any link to the said filling station.

“I don’t know anything about it and if anybody has anything to the contrary he should prove it.”

He dismissed the allegations and said it was an irresponsible politicking people were using against him.

He said he suspects that because he owned a farm, which was located about 100metres away from where the new filling station was located, people may have erroneously thought that it belonged to him.

He said he was not at the inauguration of the said filling station and restaurant even though it is located within his constituency, Fanteakwa.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo was appointed Eastern Regional Minister by the late President J.E.A. Mills in 2009 and later elevated to the cabinet position as Local Government and Rural Development Minister.

President Mahama dropped him as a Minister in 2013 after winning the 2012 elections.
