NPP maintains govt is improving lives of Ghanaians

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that apart from clearing the socio-economic mess created by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), it had performed far better in two years compared with the eight years of the NDC administration.

It stated that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government was delivering on the promises it made to the people of Ghana and was addressing the plight of the people.

The National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Mr Henry Nana Boakye, who spoke on behalf of the Truth Forum which is under the Communications Directorate of the NPP, was reacting to a press conference organised by the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, in the party’s "Moment of Truth" series in Accra.

Mr Boakye wondered why after lying that President Akufo-Addo did not inform Parliament about his official visit to South Africa, Mr Gyamfi would fail to learn a lesson but dabble in ignorance.

He said claims by the NDC that the Vice-President, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, had moved from the field of economics to technology, was a display of poverty of thought and a complete misunderstanding of what economic management was all about.

He said the best economies in the world were run along digital lines and that was the reason why the Vice-President had led the introduction of mobile money payments interoperability and electronic payment systems.

Mr Boakye said others such as the national identification, digital property addresses, digitised land records and paperless port systems, among others, were part of the better economic management.

One million dollars

Mr Boakye said contrary to claims that the NPP had not delivered on its USD$1 million per  constituency, he explained that unlike the NDC that misused the state funds under the guise of Ghana Youth Employment Entrepreneurship Development Agency (GYEEDA), the NPP had used the early stages of its time in office to establish structures that would judiciously utilise such funds.

He explained that the structures included the setting up of various authorities and that currently constituencies could boast of at least three of those projects; one warehouse as part of the 1District 1Warehouse project and one village one dam projects, community-based water systems and 10-seater institutional toilet facilities.

Taxes

On taxes, Mr Boakye said ironically Mr Seth Terkper, the former Minister of Finance under the Mahama Administration on August 23, 2016 noted publicly that the NDC had unduly taxed Ghanaians.

He said the NPP, upon its assumption of office, abolished over 17 taxes which made the Deputy Minority Leader, Mr James Avedzi,  insist that the NPP government would not get enough revenue.

He said that was contrary to the NDC’s claim that Ghanaians were reeling under the heavy burden of taxation.

Mr Boakye said but for the intervention of the Bank of Ghana, supported by the Akufo-Addo administration, 1.2 million people were going to lose their life savings because of the fraudulent and evil malpractices perpetuated during the NDC’s tenure in office in the banking sector.

“You will recall that in 2015, the Bank of Ghana did an asset quality review which revealed the imminent close down of a number of banks in this country due to deficiencies in corporate governance,” he posited.

Currency politics

Mr Boakye said the performance of the NPP in the management of the Ghana cedi against the country’s major trading currencies, especially the dollar, far outweighed that of the NDC and wondered how the NDC that presided over 31 per cent depreciation of the cedi during their tenure could be blaming the NPP for reducing the rate of the cedi’s depreciation from 31 per cent to 7 per cent.
