NDC needs reformation for victory in 2020 — Rickets-Hagan

One of the presidential hopefuls of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has said the party needs a flag bearer that will reposition the party to recapture power in 2020.

He said he represented the new vision and ideas the party needed going into the next presidential election, adding that he would reform the party.

“NDC needs to move forward and for NDC to move forward to recapture the seat in 2020 we need a new leader. The time has come that the country needs a new leader befitting the 21st century Ghana”, he added.

Courtesy call

Mr Ricketts-Hagan, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South, said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area in Cape Coast last Saturday to officially declare his intention to contest the NDC flag bearer election.

He also donated some items to the traditional council as his contribution to the 2018 Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebration.

The items included six bottles of schnapps, five crates of Club Beer, six crates of soft drinks, five crates of eggs, two bags of rice, tubers of yam, cooking oil, a sheep and some undisclosed amount of money.

Party needs reformation

Mr Ricketts-Hagan said the NDC as a party needed reformation as it had gone off track, adding that the party had to revisit its principles and values.

He said to be able to recapture power, leaders of the party had to go back to the basics and reposition it again to be electable at the next general election.

“We must position ourselves at a place where the party would be the best alternative government for this country”, he said.

“In as much as the current government is messing up big time, we are not just going to win the elections because the government is messing up but because we are the best people for the job”, he added.

Omanhen

The Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, who received the items endorsed the intention of Mr Ricketts-Hagan to contest  the 2020 NDC flag bearer position.

He said he had the full backing of the traditional council, saying, “if our own Kweku-Ricketts-Hagan wants to replace the fallen heroes of our region by contesting the top job as NDC flag bearer for the upcoming election, then we outrightly support him”.

He said that although things had not gone well for people from the Central Region since their two most prominent politicians had passed away, the council had hope in Mr Ricketts-Hagan.
