Manly-Spain eyes Greater Accra NDC chair

Mr Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared his intention to contest the Greater Accra regional chairmanship of the party.

He says he wants to be at the forefront of activities that would help the party to make victory in the 2016 election assured.

In line with this, he has stressed the need for unity and hard work within the party.

Disclosing this to the Daily Graphic at the weekend, he said that no political party in the country could defeat the NDC in the 2016 election if it upheld unity in its fold.

NDC delegates congress

According to Mr George Lawson, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, the national executive committee of the party would be meeting this week to discuss the processes leading to the party’s national delegates congress. This would involve organising branch, constituency, regional and national elections.

Party Unity

According to Mr Manly-Spain, no political party could win the 2016 election with internal divisions, adding that “the NDC needs to work closely together and maintain party unity in order to retain power in 2016.”

He said without unity and peaceful co-existence, the NDC would have difficulties prosecuting an effective campaign in 2016.

To this end, Mr Manly-Spain urged all NDC members to be involved in all efforts to help the government to succeed in order for the party to win more support.

Youth Group

Meanwhile, a youth group sympathetic to the NDC in the Greater Accra Region has pledged their support for Mr Manly-Spain’s bid to become the Greater Accra regional chairman of the NDC.

According to the spokesperson of the group, Mr Ruben Adoh,  Mr Manly-Spain is already working hard to make the NDC in the Greater Accra Region more vibrant, visible and attractive.

“If there is any aspiring regional chairman who is working hard to ensure victory for the NDC in the December 2016 elections, then that person is Mr Manly-Spain,” Mr Adoh said.

He added: “We will not let him work in vain. We are going all out to support his efforts.”

He explained that Mr Manly-Spain had impressed the group with his unity message and how he was going from door to door spreading the unity talks.

Mr Adoh described the move as unprecedented in the history of politics in the Greater Accra branch of the NDC and predicted a resounding victory for the NDC, if Mr Manly-Spain was elected regional chairman.

Apart from that, the NDC youth member said Mr Manly-Spain’s message was devoid of promises but was rather centred on how best to bring unity and tranquillity to the party to present a formidable front in 2016.

According to the NDC youth, Mr Manly-Spain has been quick to identify with the people in the region as well as those in the party so well that others who belong to other political parties are having a second thought.

For the youth group, Mr Manly-Spain is seen by constituency and branch executives, supporters, sympathisers and activists as a team-player and a unifier who respects divergent views, hates factionalism, and is selfless, hard-working and above all humble.

Currently, Mr Joseph Ade Coker is the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC and all indication points to the fact that he will seek re-election.
