Lower Manya Assembly poised to achieve revenue target
The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has held its second ordinary meeting of the fifth session of the sixth assembly at Odumase-Krobo.
Addressing the assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Simon Kweku Tetteh, said as of August 31, 2018, the assembly had collected GH¢521,171.49 out of the total revised budget estimates of GH¢842,378.00, representing 61.87 per cent.

He said the assembly was putting in the needed efforts and strategies to be able to achieve the target for the year and he hoped the assembly would achieve the set target.
He, however, charged the finance and revenue unit to double up their efforts, adding that “we would have to deploy all strategies to ensure we achieve the desired results”.
New SHS programme
Commenting on the free Senior High School (SHS) programme, Mr Tetteh said the implementation of the government’s free SHS new education policy on the double-track system had begun smoothly in the municipality.
He said his monitoring visit showed that all the four SHS’s in the municipality, namely Akuse SHS, Akro SHS, Krobo Girls’ SHS and Manya Krobo SHS had all resumed fully and the admission processes also went on well.
He said it had come to stay and appealed to assembly members to help educate parents and guardians on the importance and benefits of the double-track system in their various electoral areas.
Infrastructure
Mr Tetteh said the assembly, in collaboration with an American Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Pencils of Promise, had constructed a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Yonguase and it had been handed over to the community for use this academic year.
In the same way, he said, the contractors working on a three-unit classroom block for the Agomanya Islamic School and a nine-unit teachers bungalow at Oborpah East were back at site and working assiduously to complete those projects in a short time.
He said the assembly also took delivery of over 1,000 modern writing tables and chairs which were distributed to three SHSs: the Akuse Methodist SHS, the Manya Krobo SHS and the Akro SHS.
Mr Tetteh announced that plans were also far advanced to construct a three-unit classroom block for Amedeka and Djekiti Municipal Assembly schools, as well as the construction of a municipal education office for the education directorate at Odumase-Krobo.
He announced that two projects with funding from the District Development Facility (DDF) had commenced.
The projects, a six-classroom block and CHPS Compound were at various levels of completion at Yokwenor and Oborpah Djekiti respectively.
Agriculture
Mr Tetteh said under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) programme, over 250,000 mango seedlings had been prepared and were ready for transplanting, adding that the assembly had projected to produce 600,000 seedlings in 2019 for the farmers for their farming activities.
The Presiding Member for the assembly, Mr Benjamin Awuley Mensah, who moderated the assembly sitting, thanked the members for the unity they exhibited and also approved the media review budget successfully.
He expressed hope that such rapport would continue in their subsequent meetings in the interest of the municipality.
