An Accra-based tabloid, on Monday, hinted that two of the country’s senior journalists, Komla Dumor of the BBC and Alhaji Haruna Atta, were being considered for the positions of Presidential Spokesperson and Head of Communications at the Presidency respectively.

Mr Komla Dumor has since downplayed the publication on his Facebook page.

But in an interview with Citi News, Alhaji Haruna Atta said he was ready to serve the nation he so much cherished.

“Since morning my telephones have been busy. What I make of it is yes all inclusiveness is something we have all been looking for and so as a principle I think I will support all inclusiveness not because my name has been mentioned in-connection with anything but just as a principle,” he said.

Alhaji Haruna, however, said he had not heard any official communication in that regard from the Presidency, saying, “It will be a great honour. I mean, I am a patriot, I love my country, I respect my government and I think if the President should so honour me I will certainly consider it as an honour to serve and I don’t think I will even think twice about it; I am ready to serve the people of my country - the country I so love.”

He also admonished Ghanaians to rise above partisan approach to national issues.

“I have over the past few years been less partisan than people make me up to be...I am not looking at anything from partisan lenses anymore; I mean you grow up and you reach a certain age and you start looking things in the bigger picture rather than the small parochial one,” he stressed.

Alhaji Atta added that family relations and senior colleagues both home and abroad had pledged their support for him though the speculation was yet to be confirmed by the Presidency.

“The calls I have been getting have been across party lines. It is amazing because people have called me from the NPP, people have called me from the NDC and have all pledged their support; again it is not official but the Chairman of the National Media Commission, Ambassador Kabral Amihere, was the first to call me this morning for confirmation and said they were so happy and if that happens they will all support such a move,” he added.
