Collaborate in fight against COVID-19 - Minister urges political parties

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, has called for collaborative efforts among the government, political parties and other stakeholders to end the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He said the virus did not discriminate along partisan lines, hence the need to present a united front in ensuring that the nation emerged victorious in its fight against the pandemic.

Dr Letsa said this at a meeting of stakeholders including heads of security agencies, health officials, heads of departments, MPs and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region at the Ketu South Municipal Assembly.

The municipality has recorded six cases of COVID-19, and the meeting was to assess the challenging environment, encourage border security officials and to chart the way forward in containing the pandemic.

Dr Letsa said it was, therefore, imperative that citizens aided the government’s efforts irrespective of their political inclinations.

He said the time had come for everyone, regardless of political affiliation, to support government interventions meant to contain and prevent the spread of the disease, stressing that “this fight is not political but against a virus.”

Support

The Ketu South NDC Constituency Chairman, Mr Bright Kumordzi, assured the minister that the NDC was keenly supporting the government in winning the battle against COVID-19.

He said in line with that the party had donated Veronica buckets with sanitary facilities to the Ketu South Municipal Health Directorate and also spearheaded education on the pandemic in different dialects through the electronic media for all ethnic groups in the municipality.
