MP concerned about delayed projects

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Yilo Krobo, Mr Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, has expressed concern about the delay in the completion of health projects in the constituency.

He cited the Ahinkwa and Akowu-Bana CHPS Compounds and the maternity block of the Somanya Polyclinic project, which were about 96 per cent complete per assessment made since 2016.

The MP also wanted to know when the newly completed district hospital at Somanya would be inaugurated and handed over to the Ghana Health Service.

Parliamentary questions

Mr Nyakotey expressed the concerns when he sought answers from the Health Minister, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, on the floor of Parliament.

“The health needs of my people — clean water supply, quality education, sanitation and improving the poor nature of roads — will remain some of my key priorities,’’ Mr Nakotey emphasised.

Response

In response, Mr Agyemang-Manu said the ministry had applied for financial clearance for the recruitment of support staff for the district.

On the Ahinkwa CHPS Compound project, Mr Agyemang-Manu explained that the project was initiated and implemented by the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, whereas the Akowu Bana project was under the Special Investment Fund with partial funding from the assembly.

That notwithstanding, he said the District Health Directorate had been directed to assess both projects and report on the status and cost of completion, stressing that “this will enable the ministry to ascertain the level of completion and the total cost required for subsequent budgeting”.
