Christians urged to protect sanctity of faith
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Dr Paul K. Boafo, has asked Christians and the leadership of the church not to engage in acts that will make mockery of the faith.
He said many churches had lost the teaching power and; hence, their positive effect on the world and society.

Most Rev. Boafo was speaking at the opening of the 10th Biennial Conference and Retreat of the Ministers’ Spouses Association of the Methodist Church Ghana in Cape Coast last Friday.
Delegates
About 1,000 delegates are attending the conference, which is on the theme, ‘Go and Make Disciples of all Nations: Intensifying our Teaching Ministry for Disciple Making, The Role of the Minister’s Spouse in the Teaching Ministry of the Church’.
He said it was worrying that many churches had ignored biblical teachings and making disciples and were engaged in acts that mocked Christianity.
He said it was time to intensify the teaching of the word of God and to live exemplary lives worthy of emulation, saying “Jesus said by this they would know that you are my disciples.”
Role of spouses
Most Rev. Boafo noted that the ministers’ spouses had critical roles to work to build the church and not to divide the church.
He noted that making disciples was an intentional and calculated plan and urged the ministers’ spouses to be first filled with God and the knowledge of him to be able to affect others.
“You must yourselves be disciples who understand Jesus for yourself to be able to impact others,” he stressed.
Discipleship movement
Most Rev. Boafo said the Methodist church was a discipleship movement, adding that making disciples must be intensified if members did not want the church to die with them.
He advised the spouses to build relationships with the members and desist from creating conflicts with congregations.
The Connexional President of the association, Mrs Helena Boafo, said it was the responsibility of spouses to support the ministry by taking up responsibilities to help establish the kingdom of God.
Church and country
The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamena Duncan, said the church’s role in the development of the country could not be underestimated and pledged that the government would continue to work with the church to better the lot of the people.
The Bishop of the Cape Coast Diocese of the church, Most Rev Ebenezer Abakah-Wilson, reiterated the call on the spouses to “go and make disciples”, saying it was the responsibility of every Christian to do so.
The Omanhen of the Abeadze Traditional Area and Vice-President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi, also admonished them to build bridges and unite and rally behind their spouses to achieve the goals of the ministry.
