Bekwai MP supports two communities

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Joseph Osei Owusu, has presented cheques totalling GH¢ 330,000 to two communities in the Bekwai Constituency.

The first cheque for GH¢ȼ200,000 went to the chiefs and the people of Abodom for the construction of a market while GH¢ȼ130,000 also went to the Kwamang-Abesewa community also for the construction of its market.

Whereas the Abodom project is funded by the Social Investment Fund (SIF), the Kwamang-Abesewa project is funded by the Special Projects Fund from the administrator of the Common Fund.

The presentation of the cheques to the communities followed promises made by Mr Osei Owusu, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Bekwai Constituency.

The construction of the two markets will ease the pressure on their old and dilapidated markets which are unable to accommodate many people at a time due to increase in the population of the communities over the years.

Support government policies

Presenting the cheques at two separate durbars at Abodom and Kwamang-Abesewa, Mr Osei Owusu urged the people to take keen interest in all government’s policies and programmes so they could reap the benefits that came with them.

He explained that “if the general populace do not accept and support the various pro-poor interventions being introduced by the government to reduce poverty, it would be very difficult for the initiatives to see the light of day, as well as help improve their standard of living”.

The deputy speaker pledged to do more to uplift the livelihood of all his constituents and asked them to pray for the Akufo-Addo-led government so that it would come up with good policies that would turn the nation’s economy around to improve the lives of the people.

Kwamang-Abesewa Kente Market

During his house-to-house visitation at Kwamang-Abesewa before the 2016 general election campaign, Mr “Joe Wise,” as he is affectionately called, got to know how brisk the Kente business was in the twin-community and promised to help build a market for the people to showcase and also sell their products.

The Chief of Kwamang, Nana Bobie Panin II, thanked Mr Osei Owusu for the gesture which had come to enhance their Kente business, as well as helped them to contribute meaningfully towards the nation’s development.

He thanked the MP for fulfilling his election campaign promise, since some politicians found it extremely difficult to fulfil their campaign promises.

The youth of Kwamang-Abesewa, who are mainly into Kente weaving, took turns during the durbar to express their gratitude to the MP and the government for coming to their aid.
