Former Ashanti Mayor vows to 'snatch' NPP Nhyiaeso seat

The former Minister of the Ashanti Region, Mr Samuel Sarpong, has stated that he would spring a surprise in the region by winning the Nhyiaeso parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said with the unprecedented developmental projects by President Mahama coupled with what he had also achieved as a former Regional Minister, former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), the work had been made easy and that the seat is his to win.

Speaking to the media in Kumasi, Mr Sarpong described as not sustainable the claim by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the region and the constituency were their stronghold and that they would take it with ease.

He explained that as a political strategist, he believed that the days when people in the constituency voted for the NPP irrespective of the candidate they brought forward was long gone because with his entry, the dynamics had changed with the people looking for who could lead them to address the challenges facing them.

He said with his track record as a hard working, development-oriented and a unifier which could easily be ascertained from where he had worked so far, including his current position as the Chief Executive of the State Housing Company of Ghana, he was not surprised that his campaign was attracting a lot of supporters from the NPP.

Clean Campaign

Mr Sarpong insisted that he would continue to listen to the people and offer assistance and also work to ensure that he won the election. He noted however that he would never resort to the use of any unsavoury language about his opponents.

He urged his teeming supporters not to be tempted by the vituperations of their opponents to enter the muddy gutters with them but show the difference which he said would endear them to the continuous support and respect of the discerning electorate.

Youth

Asked why he has a very large following youth following from both the NDC and the NPP, he noted that “the attraction comes naturally if people find you to be an action-oriented person. When people read your history and take account of your background as someone who works with the youth, they would naturally come to you.”

He assured the youth that he would use his contacts in the party and government coupled with his lobbying skills, to ensure that the challenges of the youth and the people in the area were addressed in record time.

“I will use my lobbying skills to get more development to the Nhyiaeso constituency as I work collectively with other government appointees to bring progress and development,” Mr Sarpong.
