Dome-Kwabenya: Elikplim Akurugu launches 2020 campaign

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, Elikplim Akurugu, has officially launched her bid to unseat incumbent Sarah Adwoa Safo as Member of Parliament for the area.

At a ceremony held at Dome Park in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency on Sunday, September 27, the aspiring member of Parliament outlined 15 major campaign objectives that she would pursue when elected as Member of Parliament.

Among the pledges included a plan to institute SME loan schemes for market women, establish a fire station, establish an industrial park and support needy but brilliant pupils if she is elected to represent the people.

Madam Akurugu also promised to advocate for the vulnerable, institute women empowerment people and support youth enrollment into the National Apprenticeship and the Free TVET programs promised by John Mahama.

In attendance at the event were several national, regional and constituency executives of the and other prominent personalities of the NDC party.

Among the many who graced the occasion included the NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Hon Joseph Ade Coker, Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Hon Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, Anita De Sosoo, the former National Vice Chairperson of the NDC, Hon Joyce Bawa Mogtari, former Deputy Minister of Transport, Alhaji Amadu Sorogho, former Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency and Comrade Edudzi Kudzo Tamaklo, National Communication Team member and a member of the NDC Legal Team.

Others included Hon Anthony Nukpenu, Greater Accra Regional Organiser, Hon Thomas Mustapha Ashong, Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser, Amos Blessing Amorse, the Deputy Regional Youth Organiser, Hajia Alima Issah, Jessica Braimah, the Deputy Regional Women's Organiser and the entire Dome-Kwabenya Constituency Executive Committee led by their Chairman, Hon Isaac Lamptey.

Elikplim Akurugu was elected as parliamentary candidate for the NDC in Dome-Kwabenya in August 2019 after she beat three Male contenders with 813 votes.

She is a businesswoman and holds an MPhil in Guidance and Counselling from the Methodist University College, Accra.

She is hoping to buck a trend which has seen the Dome-Kwabenya seat being won by the New Patriotic Party since its inception in 2004.
