The group, christened ‘Eastern for Portuphy (EFoP)’, said the over 2000 members backed the ideals and philosophy of Mr Portuphy, who was also the Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

In a statement, the group said it was convinced about the sterling leadership qualities of Mr Kofi Portuphy, hence, its decision to clamour for his chairmanship bid.

Acknowledging the efforts of the current leadership of the NDC for winning a second consecutive electoral victory for the party, EFoP is, however, convinced that Mr Portuphy could lead the party to victory in the 2016 election.

The NDC coalition believed Mr Portuphy was a true cadre and an honourable party member and that his leadership ideals would be much needed in the 2016 elections because it would be more competitive and keen.

The statement further noted that his exploits as head of the Cocoa Evacuation Task Force in the early days of the 31st December Revolution, his leadership qualities as head of NADMO, as well as the role he played in ensuring that NDC garnered more votes in the Zongo communities in the Eastern Region spoke volumes of his abilities.
