The Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Abdul-Fatawu Bugri Naabu says the party would crash the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 general elections.
According to him the party targeted in the 2016 general election to win 18 seats but ended up winning 13 out of the total 31 parliamentary seats in the region and also increased the Presidential votes in 2016.
Mr. Naabu who made the declaration when he opened the annual regional delegates conference of the party at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale Saturday said the party has targeted to win all the 31 constituencies in the region in the 2020 general elections.
"We were able to march the NDC boot for boot in the Northern Region when in opposition and now that we are in power we will marshal all the resources at our disposal to win the entire region for the NPP in the 2020 election".
A total of 558 delegates from 29 constituencies out of the 31 in the region are to vote to elect 10 regional officers to steer the affairs of the party in the region for the next four years.
The positions being contested for are the chairman, first and second vice chairpersons, secretary, organiser, youth organiser, treasurer, assistant secretary and nasara coordinator.
Mr. Bugri Naabu who was on a wheel chair following his recent accident in his opening remarks also called for unity among party members to enable the party achieved the set target for the 2020 elections.
He thanked all party faithful for their support in diverse ways that enable the party to improve on the fortunes of the party in the region considered to be a stronghold of the NDC.
He declared "we are going to change that target of the Northern Region being a stronghold of the NDC in the 2020 elections".
