Bosomtwe Assembly lauds EC Deputy Chairperson

Deputy EC Chairperson, Georgina Opoku- AmankwahThe Bosomtwe District Assembly has congratulated the newly appointed Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Miss Georgina Opoku-Amankwah, a legal practitioner, on her new appointment.

Miss Opoku-Amankwah, who has been a member of the assembly for the past five years, has been appointed by the government to replace Mr Safo Kantaka, a former Deputy Chairman of the EC who retired early this year.

The District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe, Mr Edward Nti-Berko, who made the commendation at a special sitting of the assembly, said Miss Opoku-Amankwah’s appointment had brought honour to the assembly.

He urged her to continue with the good work which led to her appointment into the office of the Electoral Commission.

Miss Opoku-Amankwah, in her response, commended the assembly members for their support leading to her appointment and pledged to continue working hard to bring peace and development into the country.

She also called for prayers from all to enable her and the leadership of the commission to work hard as a team to conduct free and fair elections for the nation.

She pledged to work as a team member to execute the mandate of the EC.

Miss Opoku-Amankwah, until her appointment, was a Deputy Director at the National Commission for Civic Education.

She also served on a number of boards and organisations in varied capacities, including the Bosomtwe Rural Bank, the Public Service Union Centre and currently the Unique Insurance Company.

Miss Amankwah was once the Regional Vice-President of the Federation of Business and Professional Women in the Ashanti Region.

She holds a degree in Social Sciences, majoring in Sociology, and Law from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
