Asiedu Nketiah wants media to stop focusing on 'side issues'

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on the media to focus on the processes leading to the national elections of the NDC other than the happenings outside the remit of the party’s election guidelines.

He said the party was not comfortable about some of the reports and urged journalists to up their game.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah was interacting with the media at the party's headquarters in Accra on Thursday.

He also urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to do the right thing after it apologised for the late invitation to the party to attend an IPAC meeting, saying the manner in which the EC sent its invitations at the eleventh hour seemed to be a deliberate ploy to avoid the participation of the NDC at its meetings.

He said there was no way the EC could hold meetings on a referendum or voter register and by pass the main opposition party.

For this part, the Deputy General Secretary of the party, Mr Koku Anyidoho, urged aspirants to allow the party structures to work.

That, he said, would mean giving power back to the people at the grassroots.

On his chances at the national executive elections, Mr Anyidoho said confidently that "it’s about the delegates" since the position he was vying for was not the preserve of anybody.
