Amaliba denies referring to Justice Dotse as NPP member

A Member of the legal team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Abraham Amaliba, has denied referring to a Supreme Court Judge, Mr Justice Jones Dotse, as a card-bearing member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He told the Daily Graphic that he had never made that statement on any platform.

He explained that when some members of the NPP legal team were alleged to have kicked against the chairing of the Supreme Court panel by Mr Justice Atuguba because he was related to Dr Raymond Atuguba, Executive Secretary to the President, he advised against such arguments because in his opinion, all the justices of the Supreme Court were associated with members of political parties.

“I said we should not go on that tangent because all the justices are related to people in both parties either by blood ties, by membership of the same churches or because they attended the same school,” he said.

“ I also said that some of the justices were members of political parties and that there was nothing wrong with that,” he said and added that he never named Mr Justice Dotse or associated him with any party.

According to Mr Amaliba he later heard that some panelists on Joy FM’s newsfile programme mentioned Mr Justice Dotse’s name and linked that statement he (Amaliba) had made to the judge and said Justice Dotse should have named those individuals who mentioned his name.

He indicated that he was not in the Supreme Court on Wednesday and did not hear Mr Justice Dotse make the accusation against him but learnt later that the judge made it clear that he (Amaliba) did not mention his name.

“What I Learnt he said was that although I did not mention his name, I said some members of the Supreme Court who are sitting on the case relating to the election petition were members of the NPP and that because of what I said, some panel members on News File mentioned his name,” he said.

“Justice Dotse should have mentioned their names,” he added.

Asked if he felt under attack, he replied in the negative.

“I do not feel under attack because he indicated that I did not mention his name. I do not feel maligned,” he said, adding that he wanted to lay the matter to rest.
