UK mental health professionals donate to Ankaful Psychiatric hospital

Mental health professionals from the United Kingdom have donated medical equipment and other items to the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital at Cape Coast in the Central Region.

They include medication fridge, blood pressure machines, used clothing, a printer and a photocopier machine.

From the East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT), the team engaged their counterparts through teaching sessions to share their experiences with them on the UK mental health sector.

They are in Ghana at the request of the Besstel Child and Adult Psychiatric Foundation, a charity organisation registered in Ghana and Britain.

The foundation launched a mental health awareness campaign at the Independence Square in Accra last Saturday, October 27 and at the Victoria Park in Cape Coast on Sunday, October 28.

The UK team included Dr Stephen Attard, a forensic psychiatric consultant; Ms Marianne Bolton, an occupational therapist; Ms Susan Fontelo, a pharmacist and Ms Hilda Blankson, a UK-based Ghanaian nutritionist who are all staff of the ELFT except Ms Blankson.

Ms Stella Nutakor, the founder of the foundation expressed her appreciation to the hospital staff for receiving the UK team and told the staff the purpose of their visit.

She said the charity organisation is committed to supporting Ghanaians suffering from mental health conditions in Britain and in Ghana to overcome their illnesses through UK support to mental health institutions in the country.
