Graphic, Nyaho Clinic organise blood donation exercise

The Graphic Communications Group Limited and the Nyaho Medical Centre last Saturday, organised a blood donation exercise to support the National Blood Bank.

The exercise, which took place on the premises of the Nyaho Medical Centre, was also to encourage Ghanaians to engage in preventive health exercises.

Dubbed “Health Bazaar”, it was the third edition of the exercise by the two organisations as part of their corporate social responsibility.

The Health Bazaar

The event attracted many people to the premises of the Nyaho Medical Centre, with many of them using the opportunity to check their vitals free of charge.

The health bazaar also brought together vendors who came to exhibit all kinds of natural and health products, ranging from beverages, skin and hair products, blood pressure tea, organic products, textiles, as well as beads.

Motivation

Explaining the motivation behind the Health Bazaar in an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Managing Director of the Nyaho Medical Centre, Dr Elikem Tamakloe, said Ghanaians were not health conscious and that many people had been afflicted with varied degrees of ailments due to their lifestyles.

That, he explained, had compelled the Nyaho Medical Centre to promote Preventive Health through the encouragement of healthy lifestyles and promotion of health consciousness among the Ghanaian public.

"We need to make sure that people become conscious of the need to donate blood, because the thing is that when it is your turn, you would not want to be the one that would be told that there is no blood to save your life. So when you are alive and well, that is the time to actually donate blood," he added.

‘Health Hub’

The Corporate Affairs Manager of the Nyaho Medical Centre, Ms Ruth Maafo, for her part, averred that Ghanaians had the habit of visiting hospitals only when they felt ill and that to discourage that attitude, a ‘Health Hub’ had been created at the medical centre to encourage preventive health among Ghanaians.

According to her, the ‘Health Hub,’ which is a one-stop-shop for all health needs and equipped with the latest modern technology, was being manned by a medical coordinator who prescribed a unique lifestyle or medical intervention programme, depending on one's genetic make-up, as revealed by the ‘DNA Fit Kit’ installed at the centre.
