At an inauguration ceremony in Ho, the Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyemang Manu, said the elevation of the hospital would not only benefit medical students of the UHAS, but also ensure quality healthcare delivery for people in the Volta and neighbouring regions.

He said the ministry would provide all necessary advice, support and logistics for the effective take-off and management of the hospital.

Assessment

According to Mr Manu, the hospital was duly assessed by all relevant regulatory bodies in the health sector before the accreditation.

He said in line with its new status, the ministry would support the hospital through the provision of infrastructure and equipment to befit its new status.

Collaboration

The Vice-Chancellor of UHAS, Professor John Gyapong, underscored the need for collaboration between the university and the hospital to create a congenial environment for proper care of patients, teaching, learning and research work.

He said there would also be the need to establish simulation centres and additional laboratories at satellite hospitals such as those at Dzodze, Abor, Keta, Hohoe and Kpando.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, appealed to the government to consider expanding structures and facilities at the hospital for efficient healthcare services and also enable more students of UHAS to be trained to serve the country.

For his part, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, called on the management of the hospital to come up with innovative measures to facilitate the rapid transformation of the hospital.

He pledged the support of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC) towards the transformation of the hospital into a centre of excellence.
