Kade Govt Hospital gets new maternity block
The Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly has constructed an 80-bed capacity maternity block for the Kade Government Hospital at a cost of Gh¢338,000.
The facility comprises four large wards, doctors’ offices, nurses resting rooms, an operating theatre, lavatories and washrooms and was financed from the assembly’s share of the District Development Fund.

Inaugurating the facility at a ceremony at Kade last Tuesday, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour, advised pregnant women in the municipality to visit the hospital for their antenatal care and not resort to self medication.
He said since Ghana needed healthy people to contribute to nation building, we ought to take proper care of our health by way of having regular check-ups at recognised health centres.
Equipped and running
Mr Darfour commended the Kwaebibirem Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Seth Antwi Boasiako, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kade, Mr Kwabena Ohemeng Tinyaase, for their efforts to ensure that the people had good health and urged them to work towards having the maternity block equipped and running as soon as possible.
He said he was sure that the Ministry of Health (MoH) would be willing to help in equipping the block and, as such, urged the medical superintendent at the hospital to send a list of requirements for the block to him for onward transmission to the MoH.
The regional minister called on nurses and other health workers to work hard to reciprocate the government’s magnanimity to the health sector.
“I’ll also like to point out that because everybody is a potential patient, nurses must be tolerant with their patients and not be hostile to them since that may rather aggravate their illness or situation,” he said.
Maintenance
For his part, Mr Antwi-Boasiako advised the staff and management of the hospital to take proper care of the maternity block and make sure that the building was regularly maintained in order to prolong its lifespan.
He urged citizens of Kade, residing both at home and abroad, to contribute in kind and deed to keep the hospital well resourced and for it to offer improved services.
When he took his turn to address the gathering, Mr Tinyaase promised to lobby Parliament for more projects for the constituency and for the Kade Government Hospital, in particular.
Upgrade
The Medical Superintendent in-charge of the Kade Government Hospital, Dr Theodore Dorvlo, said since its upgrade from a health centre to a hospital in 2007, the hospital had faced many challenges prominent among which were lack of adequate infrastructure and equipment.
He, therefore, appealed to the Regional Minister to help find lasting solutions to the problems.
He said the new maternity block would need a fully equipped operating theatre and incubators and furniture to enable it to function effectively.
The Kadehene, Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II, commended both the MCE and MP for the maternity block and urged the assembly and the MoH to work relentlessly to have the facility equipped.
