Ghanaian community in Belgium supports hospitals
The Ghanaian community in Belgium, made up of individuals and corporate societies, has supported eight health centres across the country with medical supplies to enhance quality healthcare delivery.
The beneficiary centres are the Manhean Polyclinic in Tema, the Nsawam Prisons Clinic, Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital in the Central Region, Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital in the Western North Region and the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital in the Bono Region.
The rest include the Tafo Government Hospital, and the South Hospital, both in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Some of the items the community donated included 49 hospital beds, dialysis chairs, 50 wheelchairs, suction machines, endoscopy machines, bedside refrigerators, phototherapy surgical lamps, among others.
Home support
The leader of the delegation, Mr Emmanuel Yaw Adu-Amankwah, said the initiative, dubbed, "Ghanaian Community in Belgium Hospital Project", seeks to garner support from Ghanaians living in Belgium to support deprived health centres back home in Ghana, their Motherland.
He acknowledged the individuals, the Ghana Council of Churches in Belgium, and the Ghana Embassy in Belgium for their various contributions towards the procurement of the medical items.
Mr Adu-Amankwa stressed the need for all Ghanaians abroad to unite and support development initiatives back home.
Commendation
The Medical Officer in charge of Manhean Health Centre, Mrs Nana Konadu Darko, on behalf of the beneficiary health centres, commended the group for giving back to the Ghanaian society.
She used the opportunity to invite philanthropic bodies and individuals to emulate such kind gesture, which, she said, would go a long way to complement government’s effort to provide quality healthcare delivery to the people.
