US-Based Dormaa citizens support Presbyterian Hospital
Foerty-Two citizens of the Dormaa Traditional Area based in the United States of America (USA) have combined their resources to donate two modern patient monitors worth about GH¢30,000 to the Dormaa-Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital.
The machines, which have been fixed at the emergency ward of the hospital, are being used to monitor conditions of patients who are in critical situations which require that such facilities are used to obtain accurate health information about them.

In the absence of machines, the conditions of patients in critical conditions were monitored manually by nurses from time to time.
The advantage these monitors have is that they will be able to provide accurate information based on which doctors and nurses will give the necessary medication for treatment.
Presentation
Presenting the equipment to the hospital, a spokesperson for the donors, Dr Kwame Sintim Damoa, explained that they were motivated by the critical role the hospital was playing in catering for the health needs of people in the area and beyond.
He stated that as the only referral health facility for citizens in the Dormaa Central Municipality, Dormaa East District, Dormaa West District and some nearby communities in La Cote d’Ivoire, it was important that the hospital was equipped with the required equipment to enable it to serve its clients better.
Dr Damoa said he saw the need for citizens of the area based in the USA to support the hospital when he came home five years ago and, therefore, mobilised the donors on a WhatsApp platform to combine their resources for the presentation.
“It is in our own interest to assist the hospital since in our absence, it is the facility that will cater for the health needs of our relatives,” he stated, and called on others to join them to raise funds for the presentation of other equipment to the hospital.
The Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa Central, thanked the donors for their gesture and called on other groups and organisations to support their hospital to enable it to provide quality service to the people.
He stated that the government appreciated such donations as they supported its quest to provide adequate health care to the citizenry.
The General Manager of the hospital, Reverend Dr Isaac Appiah, said the equipment had come at the right time and thanked the donors for their act of selflessness.
He called on citizens of the area based in other countries to learn from their counterparts in the USA and mobilise resources to support operations of the hospital since they could benefit from such donations when they came home from time to time.
