UPSA lands don't not belong to the state - Previous owner

Mr Micheal Senyo Ahiayibor, the previous owner of a 4.86-acre land later sold to University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has refuted claims that the land belonged to the state.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Paul K. Opoku, the lawyer for May Ahiayibor explained that in 1974, the government by an Executive Instrument (E.I.72/74) took possession of the land along with another stretch of lands at Mpehuasam (East Legon) as a permanent site for the Accra College of Education.

However, in 2009, the government, he said, released part of the land which included the one sold to UPSA to the pre-acquisition owners.

He explained that to give legal backing to the land released, on May 29,2009, the government issued E.I.16 which revoked E.I. 72/74.

Checks revealed that E.I.16, 2009, which revoked E.I 72/74, was published on page 15 of the March 2, 2012 issue of the Daily Graphic.

"There was no way the Lands Commission would have issued a title to my client if that land was state land," he said.
