Take opportunities in hospitality industry — First Lady

First Lady, Mrs Lordina Dramani MahamaThe First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has encouraged caterers and the youth to take up the great opportunities the hospitality industry offers.

Mrs Mahama, who was speaking at a ceremony marking the 45th anniversary and 42nd graduation of the Flair Catering Services, used the occasion to challenge young persons who have the passion for catering and the hospitality services to go into the industry.

The First Lady, who herself completed training in catering 18 years ago at Flair Catering Services, advised the graduates to be prepared for the hours and commitment because they would need to love what they do in order to succeed in the challenging hospitality industry.

According to Mrs Mahama, Flair Catering gave her a window of opportunity that helped change her life. She, therefore, encouraged the graduates to make the best out of the training they had received.

The First Lady added that training in catering and the professional grooming Flair offered was a great platform in today’s booming hospitality industry in Ghana.

She recalled her early days at the institution where she was taught grooming and comportment, which had significantly impacted and moulded her into the person she is today. She mentioned Ms Oboubia Darko of Radio Gold as one of her long-time friends she met at Flair and who is still her best friend.

Mrs Mahama identified quality service and professional grooming as an essential standard for success in the hospitality industry. The challenge in the sector, she said, was how to deliver high quality services.

The First Lady, however, cautioned that unprofessional practices should not be allowed to dent the image of the sector.

“Delivering quality services is one of the major challenges facing the hospitality industry. It is an essential condition for success and we cannot afford to continue to allow unprofessionalism to dent the image of the sector”.

According to Mrs Mahama, as the social life of many more Ghanaians change and their disposable incomes increase, they will go for breakfast and lunch or dinner in restaurants and hotels.

She further observed that there would be more birthdays, and anniversary parties which would require the services of professional and customer-friendly caterers.

The First Lady extended a heartfelt appreciation to Madam Barbara Baeta, who is the Chief Executive of Flair, the management, teaching staff and all workers for their support and guidance during her days there, most especially Mrs Ann Marie French Cudjoe, who, she said, made a great impact on her life.

She congratulated Flair Catering on the wonderful training it had offered and continued to offer to the young people of Ghana.
